Professor Lofti Zadeh
The basic ideas underlying soft computing in current incarnation have links to many earlier influences, among them Prof. Zadeh’s 1965 paper on fuzzy sets; the 1973 paper on the analysis of complex systems and decision processes; and the 1979 report (1981 paper) on possibility theory and soft data analysis.
BISC Program is the world-leading center for basic and applied research in soft computing.
Professor Avideh Zakhor
She received her B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering, California Institute of Technology, 1983, a S.M. degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 1985, and a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 1987. In 1994 she joined the faculty of EECS, UC Berkeley.
Alex Zettl received his B.A. from UC Berkeley in 1978 and his Ph.D. from UCLA in 1983. He joined the Physics Department faculty at UC Berkeley in 1983. Currently he is Professor of Physics at UC Berkeley and Senior Scientist at LBNL.
Professor Yi Zhang
Yi Zhang is an Assistant Professor at University of California, Santa Cruz. Her research interests include information retrieval, text mining, statistical machine learning, and natural language processing. She has collaborated with start-ups, large corporations and government agencies on related topics. Dr. Zhang received her Ph.D. and M.S. from Carnegie Mellon University. She is working with SSRC on the Distributed Metadata Management project, focusing on how to use rich key-value metadata to allow users to interactively navigate and search distributed file systems.
Xiang Zhang is the inaugural Ernest S. Kuh Endowed Chaired Professor at UC Berkeley and the Director of NSF Nano-scale Science and Engineering Center (NSEC). He is also a Faculty Scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL).
Professor Zhang is an elected member of National Academy of Engineering (NAE) and Fellow of four scientific societies: APS (The American Physical Society), OSA (The Optical Society of America), AAAS (The American Association for the Advancement of Science), and SPIE (The International Society of Optical Engineering).
Jishen Zhao is an Assistant Professor in the Computer Engineering Department at University of California, Santa Cruz. She also affiliated with the Storage Systems Research […]
Qing Zhao received the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering in 2001 from Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. In August 2004, she joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UC Davis where she is currently an Associate Professor. Prior to that, she was a communications system engineer with Aware, Inc., Bedford, MA.
