The California Tele-Audiology Program

In California, the Newborn Infant Screening Program identifies babies with hearing loss so that interventions can begin within the first 6 month of life. Unfortunately, in Northern California, 40% of infants who show hearing loss are lost to follow-up, mainly due to a regional shortage of trained pediatric audiologists. This program will use telemedicine technologies within the California Telehealth Network to allow an audiologist in Sacramento provide services in Redding, CA. The researchers will integrate new audiological technologies with telemedicine in such a way to follow-up with infant patients in order to improve their outcomes.
