Nonnecke to lead UC Berkeley’s “Our Better Web”

Brandie Nonnecke, director of the CITRIS Policy Lab, will oversee the “Our Better Web” initiative, a collaboration among UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism, School of Law, Center for Security in Politics, and Division of Computing, Data Science, and Society. The program brings together students across campus to examine and provide recommendations for legislation on misinformation, disinformation and illegal activities conducted on social media platforms.

“We’re witnessing a sharp rise in disinformation, extremism and harmful content online,” Nonnecke said. “In order to effectively address these challenges, we must train students in multidisciplinary approaches where they learn the important connections between law, policy, journalism, data science and engineering.”
