Business Insider magazine has listed David Evan Harris, a scholar affiliated with the CITRIS Policy Lab, on its 2023 roll of most influential voices in artificial intelligence (AI).
Researching at the intersection of democracy and AI, Harris has worked in several capacities to influence AI regulation, including advising the White House and the European Commission on considerations for AI policy. He also spent time on Meta’s Responsible AI team, leading groups of researchers to explore social impact and civic integrity. He advocates for caution regarding open-source AI models and emphasizes their potential risks.
Harris is a UC Berkeley Chancellor’s Public Scholar and teaches a number of courses on technology at the Haas School of Business. He also serves as a senior research fellow at the International Computer Science Institute.
