Two CITRIS-affiliated researchers have been named to the 2025 class of fellows of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI).

Ana Claudia Arias, professor of electrical engineering and computer sciences at UC Berkeley, researches printed and flexible electronics. Using these materials, she has developed skin-like sensors, wearable monitors and devices that make MRI procedures easier and safer for children.

David Haussler, distinguished professor of biomolecular engineering and scientific director of the UC Santa Cruz Genomics Institute, works at the intersection of mathematics, computer science and molecular biology. He played a key role in the Human Genome Project, resulting in the first assembly of the human genome, publishing the UCSC Genome Browser, an online tool for genomic data visualization, and currently researches molecular evolution with an emphasis on the human brain.

The NAI Fellows Program, founded in 2012, includes 2,253 fellows with thousands of patents. It is the highest professional distinction award for inventors. This year’s class features 185 new fellows.
