Camille Crittenden, executive director of CITRIS and the Banatao Institute and co-founder of CITRIS Tech Policy, discussed AI safeguards in an interview with CBS News last week.

CITRIS Tech Policy examines an array of issues ranging from responsible AI development to digital inclusion strategies. Crittenden has also helped shape AI policy across the University of California, serving on the University of California’s AI Steering Committee and the UC AI Council.

In the interview, Crittenden voiced support for AI guardrails in California and expressed hope that federal legislation will follow. Her comments come after California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed two companion bills implementing third-party audits and independent assessments of AI systems.
