CITRIS and UC Merced celebrated dual anniversaries this month, with an event at UC Merced on Main. CITRIS, created by former California Gov. Gray Davis in 2001, celebrated 25 years of work and UC Merced celebrated 20 years of instruction.
CITRIS leaders, including Director Alexandre Bayen and Executive Director Camille Crittenden, along with UC Merced leaders, including Chancellor Juan Sánchez Muñoz, gathered to honor UC Merced as a member institution of CITRIS.
At the event, two UC Merced alumni, Daniel Emilio Sabzehzar and Brenda Yu, were honored for their post-graduate work forwarding CITRIS’ mission. The event also paid tribute to UC Merced’s Associate Vice Chancellor for Interdisciplinary Research and Strategic Initiative Joshua Viers, who served as the university’s CITRIS director for 10 years starting in 2013.
