The California Institute for Energy and Environment (CIEE) has announced Aoyu Zou as the 2025 recipient of the Art Rosenfeld Award. Established in honor of CIEE’s founder, the fellowship supports UC Berkeley student research projects on policy and technology that can enable more efficient use of energy.
Zou is a third-year doctoral student at UC Berkeley’s Center for the Build Environment (CBE), where he performs research focused on matching building heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) operations with renewable energy generation from the grid. His current work centers on developing a streamlined process for commissioning control system retrofits with the goal of establishing a standardized framework that can be used across diverse building types.
Zou will use the award to conduct rigorous field experiments and optimize his framework based on the needs of practitioners across the industry.
