The CITRIS Initiative for Drone Education and Research (CIDER) at UC Santa Cruz will assist in an upcoming study by ecologist Roxanne Beltran to identify biological hot spots in oceans by testing forward-looking infrared (FLIR) cameras on drones.
The research is funded by the U.S. Office of Naval Research (ONR) Young Investigator Program.
More than $100,000 of the $750,000 grant will support undergraduate student researchers as part of UC Santa Cruz’s Work-Study Research Initiative.
