Berkeley SciComm Fellows Application Opens on Jan 11!

Berkeley Scicomm Fellows Application Opens on Jan 11!

As a Berkeley SciComm Fellow, you will learn facilitation skills and receive training to lead two different science communication workshops, Science Storytelling and Public Speaking. You will then have opportunities to run these workshops for the UC Berkeley community – and get paid for your time!

Fellows will participate in training sessions during Spring 2021 in preparation for leading workshops starting in Summer 2021. All trainings and workshops will be held on Zoom and will be interactive through the use of chat windows and breakout rooms. Future workshops can be held in-person when health regulations permit.

Up to 12 Berkeley SciComm Fellows will be selected. Applications from all UC Berkeley graduate students are welcome!

The application form will open on January 11, 2021. Applications will be due by January 22.

The application will ask you to:

  • Please explain why you want to become a Berkeley SciComm Fellow (300 words or fewer).
  • Please share how you think this experience will benefit you in your professional pursuits (if you have not covered that already in the previous question; 150 words or fewer).
  • Please briefly summarize any previous science communication experience or training you have that you’d like to share (note that prior experience/training is not required; 150 words or fewer.)

If you have any questions, please contact Berkeley SciComm Fellows Trainer Sara ElShafie (selshafie@berkeley.edu).

Both of the workshops (Science Storytelling and Public Speaking) are designed to be held either online or in person.

Fellows from the 2021 cohort who complete the first year of the program will have the opportunity to continue running workshops in successive academic years, and will be invited to develop new workshops if interested. Continuing Fellows will also have the paid opportunity to train future Fellows.
