In honor of its founder, energy efficiency pioneer Art Rosenfeld, the California Institute for Energy and Environment (CIEE) awards a fellowship to a UC Berkeley graduate student working on technical, social science or policy research related to energy efficiency.

The 2023 Art Rosenfeld Award recipient, Eleanor Adachi, is now reimagining electricity demand and informing clean energy policies as a dual-degree master’s student in public policy and energy and resources. Her objective is to develop a more resource-efficient society through affordable and accessible electricity.

With the support of the fellowship, she will be focusing on a project to quantify the trade-offs between distribution system upgrades and capacity procurement in optimizing electric vehicle (EV) charging load. Adachi also seeks to further integrate social justice and equity into her research through her involvement in a California Climate Action Initiative-funded research project.
