CITRIS Overview
CITRIS is home to several programs that create educational and entrepreneurial opportunities for University of California students, campus groups and extramural partners. The Program Coordinator, a new position, will provide operational support to ensure the growth and success of these programs. The position offers an opportunity for the incumbent to help shape the future direction of these programs while building a network of creative students, entrepreneurs, investors, and partner organizations from on and off campus.
This position is responsible for supporting the CITRIS Foundry, CITRIS Social Apps Lab, and CITRIS Membership Program. The CITRIS Foundry is a year-long incubator program for start-up companies launched by students, alumni and faculty; the CITRIS Social Apps Lab offers opportunities for students to develop online and mobile applications with social impact, including the annual CITRIS Mobile App Challenge competition; and the new CITRIS Membership Program engages outside companies and partners to support these and other programs at CITRIS.
The position involves activities associated with reaching, serving, and engaging external constituencies through programs, events, products, and services not primarily related to fundraising. Constituencies include alumni, local community, government, parents, as well as the general public. Translates constituent needs and priorities into customized programs to create, enhance, and sustain relationships between the campus and its external constituencies.
Responsibilities
The incumbent will manage program development and daily operations for several related efforts within CITRIS. Key responsibilities and skills include:
50% Meeting and Event Planning:
- Implement private and public events involving various external and campus groups.
- Manage logistics with external visitors, speakers, mentors, and other special guests.
- Coordinate dates, times, local travel, room reservations as needed.
- Prepare written and visual materials for weekly meetings and monthly events.
- Track metrics and follow-up actions for external meetings and events to improve the effectiveness of CITRIS programs.
- Welcome and assist new start-up teams, student teams, visiting scholars and postdocs during their CITRIS onboarding process (orientation, intake forms, building access, event schedules, etc.).
50% Outreach and Communications:
- Interface regularly with CITRIS Foundry companies, CITRIS Social Apps Lab members, CITRIS corporate and institutional members and the broader entrepreneurship communities on the four CITRIS campuses.
- Organize educational resources for CITRIS entrepreneurship programs.
- Conduct on- and off-campus outreach, marketing support, and program publicity with support from CITRIS Director of Communications & Outreach.
- Research opportunities to expand CITRIS’s ecosystem of individual and organizational partners; gather relevant data to inform program outreach.
- Assist with writing website and newsletter content to promote programs.
- Ensure accurate and engaging website content for The CITRIS Foundry, CITRIS Social Apps Lab, CITRIS Mobile App Challenge, and CITRIS Memberships Program.
- Manage e-mail and social media marketing campaigns, including calls for applications and featured events.
- Update external contacts lists and relationship management databases.
- Assist with occasional tour coordination for external groups that visit CITRIS program facilities in Sutardja Dai Hall on the UC Berkeley campus.
Required Qualifications
This is a one-year contract position. Contract positions may be extended based on operational demand. Contract positions are eligible to participate in the health and welfare programs offered by UC Berkeley.
- Program or project management experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Evidence of attention to detail, strong organizational skills.
- Experience and/or proficiency in various communication and social media tools such as Mailchimp, Eventbrite, Twitter, Facebook.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with shared calendar management tools, including Google Calendar.
- Familiarity with basic database tools (e.g. Excel) or contact list management (e.g. Salesforce).
- Familiarity with project-management tools, such as Trello or Basecamp.
- Experience with web publishing platforms (e.g., WordPress).
- Graphic design, communications or marketing experience.
- External relations, fundraising, or donor management experience.
- Outreach experience within UC Berkeley and its entrepreneurship community, or ability to quickly learn the relationships and protocols.
- Interest in entrepreneurship and social-benefit applications.
