The Baxter Liberty Initiative: Nobel Prize Winner Dr. Gary S. Becker, Mar 20

The lecture will be held on Wednesday, March 20 from 4:15 pm to 6:00 pm in UC Berkeley’s Banatao Auditorium. Professor Enrico Moretti from Berkeley’s Department of Economics will serve as the respondent for the discussion. A reception in the Kvamme Atrium will follow from 6:00 to 7:00 pm.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Dr. Becker is the Rose-Marie and Jack R. Anderson Senior Fellow at Stanford University’s Hoover Institute and a Professor of Economics, Sociology, and Business at the University of Chicago. In 1992, he received the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel. His research specializes in human capital, economics of the family, and economic analysis of crime, discrimination, and population. Dr. Becker’s current work focuses on habits and addictions, formation of preferences, and population growth.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The Baxter Liberty Initiative is a program in Berkeley’s Charles and Louise Travers Department of Political Science, established by UC Berkeley Foundation Trustee Frank Baxter, former CEO of Jeffries and Co. and former Ambassador to Uruguay, in 2011. Each lecture features an intellectual leader whose expertise and scholarship focuses on the ideal of freedom in political and economic life.
