Gil Tal, director of UC Davis’s Plug-in Hybrid & Electric Vehicle (PH&EV) Research Center and co-principal investigator of a 2020 CITRIS Seed Award project to standardize electric vehicle charger data, shared his expertise with The New York Times regarding California’s plan to ban gas cars by 2035.
According to Tal, a lack of consumer interest should not be the most significant hurdle to banning internal combustion engines. He noted, however, that because other states have not adopted the same technologies as California, it may be “more challenging” for other parts of the nation to pursue bans.
