Professor Patrick E. Mantey served as the Director of CITRIS at UC Santa Cruz from its founding until 2018. He holds the Jack Baskin Chair in Computer Engineering and is the founding Dean of the Jack Baskin School of Engineering. He is also Director of iNIST, the Institute for Networking, Information Systems and Technologies in the Baskin School of Engineering.
His research interests include image storage and retrieval, electronic libraries and multimedia, educational applications of computer technology, image and signal processing, graphics and workstation hardware, system architecture, design, and performance, simulation and modeling of complex systems, real-time data acquisition and control systems, graphics and database applications, including geographic information systems, and user-machine interaction.
Professor Mantey is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and a member of American Society for Engineering Education, the Association for Computing Machinery and Sigma Xi.
