The Enabling Technologies Development (ETD) Project (formerly the Demand Response Enabling Technologies Development Project) is a research and development project funded by the California Energy Commission (CEC) through the Public Interest Energy Research (PIER) Program. The purpose of the ETD Project is to develop enabling technologies in the areas of:
* Demand Response
* Distributed Energy Resources Systems Integration (interconnection standards/technologies and market integration),
* Distribution (more flexible and responsive distribution solutions)
* Security (issues related to California’s electric grid)
* Strategic and Enabling Technologies (storage, seismic, tools for market analysis)
* Transmission (enhancements of transmission capabilities)
* Energy efficiency in buildings and the operation of HVAC equipment
The goal is to develop new and innovative technologies that will lead to 10x the capabilities of current products at 1/10x the cost. An additional even more challenging goal is to also achieve 10x reliability. The intent of the project is to also promote research collaboration between the universities, national laboratories, and private industry.
