Von Meier touts ‘transformative’ solar microgrids in WSJ

Rows of solar grids in front of a sunset.

A panel of United Nations climate experts recently expressed concern about the state of climate science. Can technology save the day? And if so, which tech?

The Wall Street Journal recently posed these questions to a group of energy academics and researchers. In response, CITRIS’s Alexandra “Sascha” von Meier described how solar microgrids could transform our energy systems. She detailed how microgrids can match regional demands, help consumers distinguish between essential and nonessential energy uses, and increase local energy security.

Von Meier is the director of the California Institute for Energy and Environment’s electric grid program area. She co-leads the EcoBlock energy team.
