Visualization Technologies for Vital Application Areas

The visualization of data is one of our most powerful tools. It enables a remarkable degree of data compression and lets us see important relationships or interconnections that we might otherwise miss. Visualization is relevant to every sector of the economy.

A joint conference, held in conjunction with Fraunhofer HHI and Detecon, took place on May 26, 2011 on the UC Berkeley campus. More than 100 attendees heard from top-level industry executives and researchers about setting the agenda for the future of this exciting space.

The conference focused on the need of industry to collect, transmit and analyze huge amounts of data and covers various aspects of video communications, including Generating of Data, Communications, Immersive Multimedia Displays and Industry Cases. It addressed a broad range of applications and services, including video processing and delivery, service issues and perspectives on areas of future development.

•    Quantifind
Quantifind is a Palo Alto-based startup focusing on data analytics. The QuantiFind engine automatically extracts data from unstructured content, contextualizes the data, and derives meaning from large scale data aggregation.
•    Cooliris
We demonstrate a new visual approach to communication that combines the latest mobile and web technologies with a real-time data backend under development at Cooliris. Our mission is to make communication more efficient, flexible, and personally relevant.
•    Zite
Zite is a personalized iPad magazine that can learn a user’s reading habits and personalize content based on their interests. Dynamic learning enables the app to keep track of the kinds of stories users choose to read and give them constantly updated feeds based on what they’ve demonstrated they’re interested in.
•    Moonshadow Mobile
Moonshadow has developed patent-pending database technology that powers data retrieval up to 100 times faster than traditional solutions. This remarkable speed breakthrough enables blazingly fast geospatial visualization of “big data” in ways that simply were not possible before. Moonshadow visualizes “big data” over Google and Bing maps, translating the raw language of data into useful answers for enterprises, SMBs, non-profits, political organizations/campaigns, government agencies and end users.

5:00 PM     Enterprise Visualization in Product-Centric Industries
Rozita Naghshin – Senior Product Manager Auto Vue (Visualization) at Oracle

5:20 PM     Witnessing the Invisible; Storytelling for Understanding and Design
Carlos Olguin – Head of Nanotechnology Group at Autodesk
