Dr. Maher Hakim

Maher’s experience was accumulated over the past 25+ years from launching and building tech startups, leading products at public software companies, teaching at universities, and building innovation ecosystems. He is currently the chief innovation advisor at Qatar Research, Development and Innovation Council, and a partner with 212.vc – a venture capital firm based in Istanbul. Between 2016 and 2018, Maher was the Managing Director of Qatar Science and Technology Park, and was a faculty member at Carnegie Mellon University since 2012.
Between 1998 and 2011, Maher co-founded four technology companies in San Francisco: Pharos Technologies – a B2B e-commerce platform acquired by Neoforma (Neoforma had an IPO in 2000), Apexion Technologies – a logistics management company for healthcare providers acquired by Lawson software (Infor today), faculte – a MOOC online education platform, and giveplace – a crowdfunding platform for public schools and nonprofits. In 1996, within a spinout from Autodesk, Maher led product development for one of the first online SaaS products ever – a project collaboration platform for the AEC industry. Maher started his career as a software engineer/product manager at Autodesk after graduating with a Ph.D in Computer Aided Design and Management from Carnegie Mellon University in 1993. Maher is a coach, mentor, advisor, investor and educator.
