From CITRIS Director Paul Wright:
On behalf of Chancellor Katehi, Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Hexter, Vice Chancellor Lewin, Associate Vice Chancellor Hamann, Dean Lavernia, Chair Mohapatra and myself, we are delighted to announce that Professor Nina Amenta is the new CITRIS Director for the UC Davis campus. As the new campus director, she will help guide the CITRIS Initiatives and enhance collaboration between the UC Davis researchers and the other three CITRIS campuses. Her work will further the efforts of our first UC Davis Director, Ben Yoo, who has dedicated ten years of service to CITRIS.
Amenta is a professor and vice chair of Computer Science at UC Davis and is part of the Visualization and Graphics Research Group. She works in computational geometry, using discrete geometry to develop algorithms for problems in areas like computer graphics and simulation. Her recent research has focused on the construction of good models of 3D objects from clouds of points, improvements in the construction of basic geometric structures, and visualization for computational biology. She is the recipient of an Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Research Fellowship and an NSF CAREER award. Amenta received her Ph.D. in 1994 from UC Berkeley.
