DDI Faculty Director Ken Goldberg recently collaborated with Sanjay Krishnan, Fernanda Viégas, and Martin Wattenberg to create an Internet-based artwork. Envisioned as a tribute to the late American painter Kenneth Noland, Bloom draws on real-time data from the live movements of the Hayward Fault, detected by a seismograph, transmitted continuously via the Internet, and processed to generate an evolving field of circular blooms. The size and position of each bloom is based on real-time changes in the Earth’s motion, measured as a vertical velocity continuously updated from the seismometer. The exhibit is on display at the Nevada Museum of Art through June 16, 2013.
