Residents of California’s Central Valley have a new way of checking for the prevalence of COVID-19 in their communities. Healthy Central Valley Together, which launched in late June 2022, offers surveillance data for residents in Stanislaus, Merced and Yolo counties.
UC Merced assistant professor Colleen Naughton, who launched an international wastewater-monitoring dashboard with support from a 2020 CITRIS Seed Award, is a co-principal investigator for the project.
Naughton was also recently quoted in a National Geographic article about wastewater monitoring, noting its use in tracking the spread of the omicron variant of COVID-19.
