On Oct. 25, San Jose was rattled by a 5.1 magnitude earthquake. Some residents got an early warning thanks to the MyShake app, developed by CITRIS PI Richard Allen, director of the UC Berkeley Seismological Laboratory, and his team.
MyShake collects data from the users’ phone sensors, utilizing a patented neural network to see whether the motion aligns with that of an earthquake. The app was enabled by a collaboration with Alexandre Bayen and team through CITRIS.
