CITRIS Invention Lab

The CITRIS Invention Lab is a maker space on the UC Berkeley campus providing expertise, tools, materials and support to design and prototype projects.

The first tech maker space on the Berkeley campus when it opened in 2012, the Invention Lab provides an array of traditional prototyping equipment that ranges from the basic craft tools to machining and electronics instruments. It also offers a unique opportunity for researchers on all four CITRIS campuses to create, produce and package prototypes that can be tested and ultimately pitched to potential users, customers and investors.

The lab is open to all members of the entire UC Berkeley community. This includes undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, staff, faculty and recent UC Berkeley alumni who have previously been Maker Pass holders.

Get a Maker Pass: Access to the Lab is handled through the Maker Pass system. This is a joint pass that allows access to both the CITRIS Invention Lab and the Jacobs Institute for Design Innovation. The Maker Pass fee is $125 for the semester for individual users. Fee waivers are available by request for students with financial need. If the Maker Pass sells out, you can sign up for our limited Invention Lab-only Maker Pass.
