Proposition 30 Awareness Project

In Fall 2012, California’s Proposition 30 sought to balance the budget by imposing temporary taxes to benefit public education at all levels. In order to raise awareness about this important measure, the Data and Democracy Initiative launched a project to encourage Californians to mobilize their social networks and test their influence. The project site provided non-partisan information about Proposition 30 and invited visitors to enter their email address. When they clicked through to the next screen, a unique web address was generated that they could share with friends, whose visits to the site would be tracked back to the original user. By the week after the election, nearly 20,000 people had visited the site and 900 had signed up. Learn more about the project at: http://opinion.berkeley.edu/ca-prop-30-awareness/.
