Information and Communications Technologies for Social Enterprise: Final Project Presentations

Come join us as students present their project ideas leveraging novel information and communication technologies to support social causes worldwide, while competing for $10,000 in prizes. Winners will be chosen by a distinguished panel of judges to receive seed funding to further advance their ideas.
Students will be presenting their final projects from the course INFO 290: Information and Communications Technologies for Social Enterprise, which focuses on the creation of sustainable enterprises based on information and communications technology innovations supporting international development.
The students learn to take a broad view of entrepreneurship — including starting new businesses, non-profit initiatives, and public sector projects — and use a highly iterative, design-oriented, feedback-driven approach to developing and refining business plans for social enterprises.
This year’s projects include:
MobiTurk: Mobile MicroEmployment for the Developing World
MobiTurk allows workers to earn or supplement a living wage doing meaningful work in the outsourced economy.
NGO360
Ngo360 connects volunteers to international service opportunities and to each other.
Shreddr
Shreddr offers cheap, efficient, and on-demand paper data transcription, using simple digital cameras and the power of the crowd.
Awaaz.De
Voice-based social media for empowering rural communities and bridging the diaspora
EduMile
A non-profit firm dedicated to providing loans to students through micro-lenders from India and rest of the world
