SUMMARY:Film Screening: The Spectrum of Life: Remote Sensing at the Southern Tip of Africa
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special screening of The Spectrum of Life\, a new documentary on BioSCape — NASA’s first biodiversity-focused field and airborne campaign. Co-led by Erin Hestir\, director of CITRIS at UC Merced\, Adam Wilson of the University at Buffalo\, and Jasper Slingsby at the University of Cape Town\, the project paired imaging spectrometry and remote sensing with on-the-ground ecological research to map biodiversity across South Africa’s Cape Floristic Region. Recently honored with a 2024–25 NASA Group Achievement Award\, BioSCape demonstrates how international collaboration and cutting-edge remote sensing can deepen our understanding of ecosystems and help protect life on Earth. \nThe film is directed by Jeremy Shelton and Otto Whitehead\, featuring Zolani Mahola (The One Who Sings). \nThere will be a panel after the screening\, featuring speakers from NASA and UC giving insights into the science and engineering of this groundbreaking multinational research campaign. A reception will follow. \nAdmission is free. Registration is required.
