SUMMARY:Introduction to Drone/UAS/UAV Safety and Use
DESCRIPTION:Drones are in the process of revolutionizing data acquisition in the fields of surveying\, precision agriculture\, construction\, firefighting\, and even accident forensics. They are also becoming an invaluable tool for cinematographers and real estate services providing a low-cost and minimally intrusive alternative to helicopters. Increasingly affordable and user-friendly drones have also opened the field to a host of hobbyists and enthusiasts\, opening up a burgeoning consumer market\, and speeding up the rate of innovation and development. As drones find use in ever more applications\, regulations have been developed in order to assure safe operation and integrate drones into the national airspace. \nREGISTER TO ATTEND \nSaturday\, November 10\, 2018 | REGISTER\nSpace is limited\, enroll early! \nTime: 8:30 am to 5:30 pm \nEarly registration savings available through October 31\, 2018\nOne seat for $250.00\nTwo or more seats for $225.00 each* \nRegister after October 31\, 2018\nOne seat for $300.00\nTwo or more seats for $275.00 each* \nTo register two or more for this course\, please email extension[at]ucmerced[dot]edu directly. \nYou can earn .08 CEU for this seminar. \nCourse Description: \nThis one-day course prepares participants to take the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Unmanned Aircraft General (UAG) test to earn a Remote Pilot Certificate with a Small Unmanned Aerial Systems (sUAS) rating. DESCRIPTION:REGISTER TO ATTEND \nAbout the speaker: \nAnca is an Assistant Professor in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science department at UC Berkeley. She runs the InterACT lab\, focusing on enabling robots to work with\, around\, and in support of people. Her goal is for robots to autonomously generate their behavior in a way that moves beyond functionality and formally accounts for interaction with humans. This combines optimal control\, machine learning\, and cognitive science\, with applications in collaborative manipulation and autonomous driving. Anca got her PhD in the Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon University on planning intent-expressive robot motion. She has been honored by the Sloan Fellowship\, MIT TR35\, the Okawa award\, and an NSF CAREER award. \nAbout the Series:\nLaunched in 2008\, the CITRIS Research Exchange delivers fresh perspectives on information technology and society from distinguished academic\, industry\, and civic leaders. Join us this fall to celebrate 10 years of innovative ideas and dialogue. \nLearn more about CITRIS and the Banatao Institute at the University of California. \n—- \nThe CITRIS Research Exchange is free and open to the public.
