DESCRIPTION:Register to Attend \nAbout the speaker: \nSamuel is the research director of the Digital Intelligence (DigIntel) Lab at IFTF\, a research associate at the Oxford Internet Institute\, and an associate member of Green Templeton College at the University of Oxford. He specializes in the study of automation/AI\, political communication\, and information warfare. He is also a co-founder and former research director of the Computational Propaganda (ComProp) research team at the University of Oxford and the University of Washington. He and his collaborators have done foundational research on the topics of online disinformation and political manipulation\, coining the terms ‘computational propaganda’ and ‘political bot.’ \nSam has been featured in publications such as the New York Times\, the Washington Post\, and the Guardian and on CBS’ 60 Minutes\, BBC’s News at Ten\, and NPR’s On Point. His work has been presented to the US Congress\, the UK Parliament\, and NATO. DESCRIPTION:REGISTER TO ATTEND \nAbout the speaker: \nAnca is an Assistant Professor in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science department at UC Berkeley. She runs the InterACT lab\, focusing on enabling robots to work with\, around\, and in support of people. Her goal is for robots to autonomously generate their behavior in a way that moves beyond functionality and formally accounts for interaction with humans. This combines optimal control\, machine learning\, and cognitive science\, with applications in collaborative manipulation and autonomous driving. Anca got her PhD in the Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon University on planning intent-expressive robot motion. DESCRIPTION: REGISTER TO ATTEND\nAbout the Speaker: \nPeter James Meyers\, Founder and President of Stand & Deliver Group\, is a\ncommunication consultant who has worked with leaders in politics\, business\, sports and performing arts to achieve greater influence through the spoken word. \nA graduate of the University of Southern California\, Peter lived and studied at the Zen Yoga Arts Institute in New York\, and trained as a performer with the late Stella Adler and Sanford Meisner at the Neighborhood Playhouse. He is the former artistic director of the award-winning Vector Theater Company in San Francisco. \nIn founding Stand & Deliver\, Peter synthesized his experience in sports (as a\ntennis and ski instructor)\, in theater (as an actor and director)\, and high performance psychology (as a teacher at the Esalen Institute)\, connecting the\nthree disciplines to develop Stand & Deliver’s High Performance Communication curriculum. \nHe has taught performance and leadership skills at the Esalen Institute\, American Conservatory Theatre\, Stanford University\, Dominican University and the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) in Lausanne\, Switzerland. DESCRIPTION:REGISTER TO ATTEND\nAbout the speaker: \nRoya Pakzad serves as a Research Associate and Project Leader in Technology and Human Rights at Stanford University’s Global Digital Policy Incubator (GDPi). She also works with Stanford’s program in Iranian Studies on the role of information and communication technologies in human rights in Iran. Roya has worked on initiatives relating to everything from the role of technology in the Syrian refugee crisis to the human rights implications of Artificial Intelligence. She also researches the human rights policy and practices of technology companies and explores the role of technology in empowering marginalized groups. After three years working at Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) as an electrical engineer\, she decided to converge her interests in technology and human rights. She holds degrees from Shahid Beheshti University (B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering)\, the University of Southern California (M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering) and Columbia University (M.A. in Human Rights Studies).
