In 2008 we opened the Par Lab saying that industry needs the research community to help succeed in its sudden switch from serial to parallel computing. The goal of the $10M, 5-year Universal Parallel Computing Research Center was to help sustain the rapid improvements in information technology that portions of the economy depend upon.
