Humanitarian Innovation: Sustainability & Scale

The Human Rights and Business Initiative at the Center for Responsible BusinessCITRISArticle One Advisors, and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs hosted a public symposium on February 23 and by-invitation workshops on February 23 and 24 to bring together leading technology experts, researchers and humanitarian actors to explore how emerging technologies are used to support humanitarian action, human rights and social change.

The event featured a diverse set of speakers from UN OCHA, Benetech, Internews, Visa, Digital Democracy, frog design, and the Center for Effective Global Action (agenda and speaker bios available here). The event explored the game-changing potential of innovative tools and practices in humanitarian contexts, the role of business, and how new partnerships are leading to better outcomes for millions of people affected by conflict and natural disaster around the world.

The discussions and recommendations will be captured in an outcome document, which will further inform and guide the development of solutions. The event was videotaped and will be posted at https://www.youtube.com/user/citrisuc.
