CompFest is an all-day event beneficial for younger researchers. It allows students and postdocs from UC Berkeley and Stanford, working in computational mechanics, to present snapshots of their research.
The Designated Emphasis in Computational Science and Engineering Program hosted the third annual Bay Area CompFest on October 19th, 2013 in Sutardja Dai Hall at UC Berkeley. This event allowed attendees working in the computational science area from UC Berkeley and Stanford, to get a snapshot of Bay Area research. Each of the 48 speakers, exclusively students and post-docs, was given 5 minutes to present a synopsis of their research. The general areas covered were industrial computation, applied numerical methods, and computational mechanics.
The local organizers were Prof. Tarek Zohdi (Chair of the DE-CSE) and Dr. Debanjan Mukherjee (Post-Doctoral Research Associate).
The Scientific Organizing Committee was comprised of Prof. Tarek I. Zohdi, Prof. Philip Marcus (UC Berkeley), Prof. Adrian Lew (Stanford), and Prof. Charbel Farhat (Stanford).
The following persons were instrumental in the logistics and the running of the CompFest: Aashish Ahuja, Daniel Driver, Rishi Ganeriwala, Matt Kury, Peter Minor, Bhavesh Patel, Alejandro Queiruga, John Stevens, and Zeyad Zaky.
