The 2013-2014 Big Ideas@Berkeley contest is now open!!
Big Ideas@Berkeley is annual innovation contest that provides funding, support and inspiration to interdisciplinary teams of undergraduate and graduate students who have creative solutions to address pressing social, environmental, or economic challenges. Its mission is to support students’ ingenious first attempts at social change and mentor students as their ideas take flight. By seeking out and supporting innovative proposals, Big Ideas has helped students make an impact all over the world.
This year’s competition features 9 individual categories with up to $300,000 in prize money available to students. UC Berkeley students are eligible to apply to any of the categories. Students from UC Davis, Merced and Santa Cruz are eligible for 4 of the 9 contests, indicated by a *.

- Creative Expression for Social Justice
- Clean & Sustainable Energy Alternatives
- Financial Capability
- Global Poverty Alleviation *
- Improving Student Life
- Information Technology for Society *
- Open Data
- Promoting Human Rights *
- Scaling Up Big Ideas (for past Big Ideas Winners) *
