The University of California, Merced, is a leader in sustainability, resilient food systems and unmanned aerial vehicles.

CITRIS at UC Merced, in the heart of the San Joaquin Valley, is dedicated to developing pathways to careers in technology. By engaging students in middle school with the NexTech Robotics education program and supporting diverse and women students at community colleges and UC Merced through their academic careers with training opportunities, CITRIS is changing the face of the tech workforce to resemble California.

On the research side, CITRIS at UC Merced specializes in innovative agricultural production and food processing through integrating the whole food system: from energy to water and labor to end product. Home to the UC’s Center of Excellence on Unmanned Aircraft System Safety and faculty leaders on remote sensing, mechatronics and automation, UAV research is resulting in practical solutions in the fields of agriculture, water resources management and landscape ecology.

CITRIS at UC Merced addresses California’s most pressing social, economic and environmental problems by leveraging cutting-edge technologies, incorporating a convergence of the following foci: student-driven initiatives like Tech for Social Good, seed grants and faculty Research, and corporate partnerships. CITRIS builds upon UC Merced’s facilities and resources, offering research partnership opportunities to industry, and offering UAS instruction.
