Delivery of Healthcare
The capacities of health care systems everywhere are strained due to demographic shifts, consumer trends, demand, labor force productivity, and increasing costs. Fundamental and applied research in science and engineering, including telemedicine and clinical tools, can improve clinical care and its delivery.
The CITRIS Health Care Initiative aims to improve the capacity of the state health care system through fundamental research in science, technology, and services. CITRIS researchers are developing new ways to improve the service and delivery of health care using IT and exploring new ways to use technology that best benefits patients quickly.
Researchers are working on the devices, interfaces, and databases for networked medical devices to monitor and measure symptoms of serious conditions such as diabetes on a daily basis. While modern medicine has been able to introduce life-saving diagnoses and treatments, access to these improvements has been challenged by high costs and uneven service. Projects under way at CITRIS will help to manage costs more effectively and extend the reach of health care, especially in poor and underserved communities.
