Professor Ikhlaq Sidhu

Biography

Ikhlaq Sidhu is the chief scientist for the Fung Institute for Engineering Leadership in the College of Engineering at UC Berkeley and serves as the primary architect of its curriculum and integrated research. Professor Sidhu joined UC Berkeley in 2005 as founding director of UC Berkeley's highly successful Center for Entrepreneurship & Technology, which has grown to become the cornerstone of the Fung Institute. In 2009, he received the recognition as the 2009 Emerging Area Professor of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research at UC Berkeley for his contribution to this new research and teaching area at UC Berkeley.

Current applied research projects reside in the CET Venture Lab and CET Industry Lab. Some projects add translational value to U.C. Berkeley research. Other projects support new industry creation or illumiinate major paradigm shifts with industry partners and venture capital firms. Project areas include electric vehicle infrastructure (Car 2.0), quantitative technology for business decisions, low cost healthcare models, and efficient power.

Systems level design and architecture; electric vehicle infrastructure; IP Telephony, IP media / video communications, telepresence and immersive video conferencing; network planning, modeling, reliability analysis, quality of service; technical due-diligence, industry analysis; technology and product strategy for profiting from innovation; policy for public-private partnerships to advance innovation.

Dr. Sidhu received his bachelor's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and his masters' degree and doctorate in Electrical Engineering from Northwestern University.
