Description
CITRIS, the Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society, will hold its Corporate Sponsor Day, an annual gathering where our corporate sponsors come to learn how we are furthering our mission of fostering the application of innovative technology to societal-scale challenges. This year's event will be held on May 2, 2006, starting at 9:00 a.m. in the auditorium of the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute (http://www.msri.org/ ) on the UC Berkeley campus.
The focus of the meeting will be two of the three major research thrusts for CITRIS: Services Science, Management and Engineering (SSME) and technology for Intelligent Infrastructures. As services become a greater part of our economy, every major corporation sees a strong need for education and innovation directed at leading and strengthening this aspect of their business. Our meeting will outline how CITRIS's research and educational agenda focus new resources and new visions on this topic. Intelligent, or "smart" infrastructure has become a major area of emphasis in the California and national, agendas. The challenge here is to introduce the most innovative new technologies for efficient resource use and preservation (energy, water, air), safe and efficient transportation, secure financial and informational transactions and communications, food supply and safety, and many other elements that shape our lives.
We feel that this setting and the agenda that we have planned gives us a most opportune means with which to interact with you, to give you an update on selected topics from the rich landscape of CITRIS research, and to engage your feedback and comments on our work.
